Onward & Upward

Onward & Upward is a weekend-long retreat offered in February and September each year for 12-15 year olds focusing on positive character traits.

Onward and Upward (O&U) began in February 2004, after several volunteers and the leadership team from Royal Family Kids Camp wanted to continue working with the same children as they aged out of Royal Family Kids Camp (ages 6-11). As Paul Harvey used to say, we wanted to know (and see!) the rest of the story.

OFC continues to use a 2:1 teen to counselor ratio at O&U, and the curriculum and activities are designed to help teens combat peer pressures and build independence. The 2:1 ratio enables some measure of mentoring while going through the various sessions and activities of the retreats.

Activities include swimming, hiking, fishing, our own version of “The Amazing Race”, crafts, praise time, paintball, fishing and various games. Free time is also built into all retreats, enhancing the communication between the counselors and the teens.
