Grace at the Grocery Store
We know when we ask for God’s presence and favor at camp that we should wait and watch expectantly. But the day before any campers arrive? At a Brookshire’s grocery store?
Two dedicated staff members at RFKC, Gina and Andrea, made it their mission to buy watermelons as a delicious addition to a meal the next day. The pickings were slim at the local grocery store. The ladies were meticulously selecting the best that were available in the produce section. However, they didn’t realize they were attracting attention.
A couple of twenty-something young men became curious. Finally, they just had to ask, “Why are y’all buying so many watermelons?” Surprised that anyone would care, Gina answered, “They’re for camp this week.” The guys weren’t quite satisfied. “What camp?” they continued.
Through more back-and-forth conversation, Andrea and Gina explained where the camp was located and that it’s purpose was to serve kids who’ve been abused, neglected, or abandoned. Obviously touched by the camp’s mission, the young men wished them a great week, and both pairs parted with smiles.
As the women approached the checkout lane, one of the men, Justin, rushed to catch up with them. “I want to pay for these watermelons, ” he declared. “I feel like it’s what God wants me to do.”
Forty-three dollars and nine cents later, he turned and said, “I’ll be praying for you guys this week!”
Yes, God is going before us. If this example of His work is any indication, God truly blesses his children with great blessings!
